SHILLONG: The State BJP on Saturday stood by party member and KHADC MDC Neil Antonio War, who supported the resolution against restriction on cattle slaughter while opposing the notification of the Centre in this regard.
“The Centre has made it clear that it will not interfere with the food habits of the people and at the same time it is a State subject and up to the State Government to make a policy on cattle trade,” War said during a press conference here on Saturday.
The state BJP leaders echoed the same and added that the political propaganda in this regard by the Congress resulted in the confusion over cow slaughter.
According to the BJP leaders, the Congress has no other agenda than the cow slaughter and hence, they are raking up the issue.
To a question on smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh, BJP spokesperson Basu Chakraborty said, “The Congress knows everything , but it is not doing anything to control the smuggling”. According to the state BJP leadership, when the party comes to power in Meghalaya, it will take steps to prevent cattle smuggling.
