SHILLONG: Lapluh M. Sangma, who was once an ardent supporter of P.N Syiem, will face the Mawsynram MLA in the 2018 Assembly elections.
Sangma, a leader from the border areas of Mawsynram, deserted Syiem’s camp with an allegation that the MLA failed to meet the aspirations of the people in the border areas as there is no development even after four years of his leadership in the constituency of Mawsynram.
Sangma was instrumental in garnering support of different communities like Garo, Nepali, Bengali, Myndai, Hajong and Koch for Syiem.
Other supporters who left Syiem’s fold are Bimol Thapa from Dangar and Paulus Momin from Ryngku.
Sangma refused to comment on which party he would contest the election from. Sources said he is likely to contest from National People’s Party.
