Bengaluru, Jul 1 (UNI) Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF), country’s only dedicated platform working for the cause of para sportsperson and driven by India’s Asian Championship medalist Aditya Mehta culminated their week-long camp to scout 48 talented para-athletes out of the 100 in five disciplines here at the BSF STC, in the outskirts of the city today.
The initiative which is an endeavor to scout and train future Para-athletes has gone on to transform the debunked soldiers into world beaters.
An initiative which was started by Aditya last year saw a batch of former armed personnel securing podium spots in the Asian Para-Cycling Championship held in Bahrain, 2017.
The AMF partnering with the Central Armed forces has scouted 48 athletes in five disciplines, which consists of 35 personnel from the armed forces and 13 civilians out of the 100 participants, through this year’s camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Asian Para-Cycling medalist Aditya Mehta said that “all 100 participants were part of the rigorous regime and gave it their all in the seven-day long camp. All the athletes shortlisted will continue their future endeavour of representing the nation as they come under AMF’s wing and train under our coaches in different regions of the country,”
The 12-scouted para-cyclists will move on to Hyderabad and train under Aditya’s tutelage for the Asian Para Cycling Championship next year. 11-scouted para-swimmers will shift base to Kolkata to be coached for future national tournaments by Bholanath Daluai. The three armed forces personnel recruited for para-badminton will stay in Bangalore to follow their rigorous regime with Anand Kumar, Girish Sharma and Mark Dharmai. And, five of the 48 athletes, scouted for tennis and will proceed to Chennai to be coached under renowned coaches, Balachandar Subramaniam and Madhu Bagri. UNI
