SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation  (MTC) workers Union has asserted that the Union  may  file an appeal before the Central government over the   sudden transfer of its Managing Director (MD)  A Nikhla .

Erwin Sutnga, President of the   Union today told reporters that the State government had forgotten that   even the Central Government has a say in the functioning of the corporation and State government cannot manage the corporation  according to its whims and  fancies.

The workers Union which has called for a strike demanding immediate revoking of the transfer order of A Nikhla, has made it clear that their  protest will  continue until and unless government  fulfill their demand.

Sutnga pointed out that A Nikhla was doing good job in her short tenure of nine months and added that the tenure of an officer in a post should be for a period of at least three years.

“If She (A Nikhla) is removed, we fear that all the process of reforms  taken by her would come to a stop,” he  said and added that the  reforms would affect many vested interests.

Demanding that the ad hoc system of management in the corporation should cease to exist, he added that A Nikhla in her tenure had plugged  revenue leakages besides she had identified the   area of corruption  within the corporation.

Maintaining that the action of the government in transferring her is not justified,  Sutnga added that the  Union was ready to hold discussion with the government on the matter but till date, there had been no response from the state government.

As on date ,  the strike of the employees of the corporation  has affected  both tourists and locals  in the state and commuters are in a spot as both inter-state and district buses have stopped plying.

Many tourists were stranded as services like rail ticket booking at the MTC counter were closed owing to the week-long strike that started on June 27.
