Liander Nongshli, local headman of Shakhoikuna, said, “They are pretending that they were the farmers to collect vegetables from the jungle by covering their baskets with vegetable whereas inside the basket there were betel nuts that they illegally plucked from the garden of local residents.”
The headman said local residents were complaining of theft. A huge quantity of betel nuts was found in their possession, he added.
The Dorbar of Shakhoikuna has settled the case in the village court after the women along with their family apologised and assured to compensate, Nongshli added.
