Mawshynrut civil sub-division inaugurated

NONGSTOIN: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated Mawshynrut civil sub-division in West Khasi Hills on Monday.
Sangma, while addressing a gathering of 6,000-odd people at Christ King playground, apologised to the people of Mawshynrut for the delay in inaugurating the sub-division “due to time constraint”.
He said in the past seven years the government has come up with a number of developmental programmes.
The chief minister assured that the police outpost in Riangdo will be soon upgraded to a police station.
Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh was accompanying the chief minister.
While the KSU welcomed Mawshynrut civil sub division, the union staged a protest against the railway project on Monday.

John Fisher Nongsiang, President of KSU West Khasi Hills, with the support of its activists protested against the arrest of KSU members of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi outside the venue of inauguration of the civil sub division.
The demonstration by the KSU activists was peaceful, but the security was tightened.
“We are protesting not against civil sub division, but we are against the railway project, Nongsiang told reporters.
Slogans like ‘welcome civil sub division, go back railway station’ were displayed in banners during the protest.
The magistrate and police intervened to stop the protest, but in vain.
