Five poachers arrested by Manas Park forest staff

GUWAHATI:  Forest personnel from Manas National Park have arrested five most wanted poachers and a notorious arms dealer from Bijni in Chirang district of Assam and recovered a huge quantity of wildlife parts including tiger skin and bones of various animals from their possession. They were involved in poaching of animals in Manas National Park in the state.

The arrested poachers were identified as Sanjib Basumatary, Ranjan Daimari, Badu Boro, Sunil Boro and Banaru Boro. The apprehended arms dealer was identified as Marun Boro. He was found in possession of a handmade gun and a barrel.

Sprawling Manas National Park has a tiger project besides a treasure trove of animals including rhinos, wild bison, buffaloes, elephants, deer, many species of birds, hispid hares etc.

The picturesque National Park located along the Bhutan border in Assam, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has recovered from the devastation it had suffered during the militant movement in Bodoland areas of Assam through 1990s.
