SHILLONG: BSF Meghalaya frontier Inspector General PK Dubey has said the Bangladeshi authorities are bound by the law of their country to take legal recourse for handing over anybody who has crossed over to Bangladesh.
In a span of a few months, two persons from South West Khasi Hills were abducted by Bangladeshi kidnappers and they were taken away to the neighbouring country.
On April 27this year, 18-year-old Dajied Syiemlieh of Umthied village near Mairang in West Khasi Hills was abducted by a group of Bangladeshis in South West Khasi Hills. He was rescued by Bangladeshi police on May 15 from Kolchanda village under Sherpur district.
However, he is yet to be handed over to India. Another man, Ricky Nongpyniar, was abducted this month from South West Khasi Hills’ Nongjri village and they have already crossed the border. Dubey pointed out that these kidnappings are the joint venture of criminals along the border but the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has extended their support to BSF whenever inputs were shared with them about abductions. “Whoever is caught by BGB, they would be taken to court for action as they are bound by their law,” he said, adding that they have to investigate the matter.
