New tribal council elects office bearers

SHILLONG: The North East All India Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi (Tribal) Vikas Parisad has formed the Meghalaya Tribal Development Council.
The Parisad held a meeting on Monday where the North East body President, Mariah Mangte, and General Secretary Robin Roamie Heni announced the names of the new office bearers.
Arun Lyngdoh was elected as the president, Jude Xalxo as the vice president, Badariti L. Nonglait as the general secretary and Kenneth Matthew as the treasurer.
Elizabeth Nongbri was elected as the president of the women’s wing and Daplin Lyngdoh as the vice president.
The All India Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi (Tribal) Vikas Parisad was formed way back in 1967 and the main aim and objective of this organisation is to preserve, promote and safeguard the tribal religion, culture, traditions and languages.
It aims at creating awareness on various schemes for tribals under the central and state governments, besides other programmes.
