SHILLONG: The Stray Animal Rescue Society (SARS) recently organised a volunteer programme and orientation for new members.
Tee Mawlong of the Society said, “Over the last few months, many compassionate citizens of Shillong have come forward to support our cause and they have gone the extra mile to help helpless animals.”
Retired IPS officer WR Marbaniang, Meghalaya police officers and officials of the Veterinary Department had attended the programme.
In May, the Society had sent out an online volunteer application form that received overwhelming response.
During the programme, new volunteers were trained in basics like legal procedures and methods of rescue. Over 70 youth across Shillong have signed up in the first phase of the application process.
