SHILLONG: Police have to make three more arrests in connection with the sensational sex racket case involving a 14-year-old girl, who was abused in Marvelene’s Inn and other areas.
Based on the complaints of the State Child Rights Commission and the girl, 11 cases were registered and 19 persons were arrested and in all five cases were charge-sheeted.
While as many as nine accused secured bail, 10 are still in jail, police said.
Though an FIR accusing an unidentified person for rape of the girl was under investigation by police at Sadar, investigation did not lead anywhere and it was closed with final report. Other cases are under Laban and Madanrting police stations.
Police said that three more accused who are still at large include an unidentified army man, another unknown person and another accused identified as Sudhir Kumar Paul (Professor Roy) whose residential address is Bizpur in North 24 Parganas (Barasat) in West Bengal.
Paul, who is yet to be traced, was employed as office staff with a career institute in Shillong.
Earlier, police had issued a lookout notice against Paul after the girl named him as one of the persons who raped her.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak recently said a police team was sent to West Bengal  but the accused could not be traced as police did not get the exact location of his residence.
He added that further investigations were on to charge sheet the remaining cases and to arrest the accused, who are still at large, at the earliest.
