SHILLONG: Meena Kharkongor, who is starting her second tenure as the Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), said the panel is trying its best to follow up the pending cases.
When asked about the numerous pending cases and whether she would write to the police to ensure that these cases are transferred to special courts if any, Kharkongor said, “It is an ongoing process.”
“As a Commission, we will try our best to spread awareness on child rights,” she added.
Among the pending cases, the rape and trafficking of a 13-year-old girl in which Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang has been arrested is the most high-profile case.
The State Cabinet has re-notified Meena Kharkongor as the chairperson of the reconstituted SCPCR after her term expired.
The Social Welfare Department had informed the Cabinet that it was difficult to get eligible members.
