SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s dream to transform Polo into Times Square finally looks set to become a reality.
Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek and officials from the Public Works and other departments inspected the area near the CRPF camp at Polo on Monday for a beautification project that stems from the ‘Times Square’ proposal.
Hek asked the PWD to draw up a blueprint for beautification of the area on the lines of Times Square.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Hek said the area near the camp has become an eyesore and needs revamp keeping in mind the VIP visits to Polo Grounds and the Shillong Golf Course.
“After this beautification project, we will shift the hawkers to the area near the closed slab on the road,” he said and assured that he would get funds from the State Government.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak, the Commandant of the 67 battalion of the CRPF and local Rangbah Shnong also accompanied Hek on Monday.
The Commandant of the CRPF 67 Battalion stressed on the need to construct a boundary wall outside the camp.
The team will meet again in the first week of August where the PWD will give a presentation before the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner.
