Kohima: Over 20 per cent polling was completed by 1000 hours to the Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency, where by-election began at 0700 hours today. A straight fight is on between 81-year-old former CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu(NPF), contesting for the 9th time from the same constituency and 41-year-old Kekhrie Yhome, a Human Rights activist-cum-academician.
Of the 16, 235 voters 8538 are females. Dr Liezietsu cast his vote at the Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School in Kohima village. Meanwhile, security measures have been intensified since yesterday and the personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion, Nagaland Armed Police and District Executive Fore are patrolling in the areas under the Constituency for foolproof security. The district Administration has already identified 17 out of 25 polling stations as ‘critical’. The VVPAT system is being used for the first time in Kohima district, where voter only can see whether his voting is correct or not for seven seconds. Voting will continue till 1600 hours. UNI
