Cattle worth Rs one lakh seized from smugglers

JOWAI:  Police seized five cattle worth about Rs one lakh near bordering Muktapur village in West Jaintia Hills district while those were being taken for smuggling into Bangladesh.

Acting on a specific input, the police intercepted two smugglers at Syndai village few kilometers before reaching Muktapur, who were taking the cattle on foot towards Bangladesh border. On seeing the police, the suspected smugglers fled into nearby jungles leaving the cattle behind.

Police later handed over the seized cattle to Customs officials at Dawki.
