SHILLONG: The teenage driver, Neelakshi Thakur who lost control of her vehicle and ramped into four pedestrians killing a woman on Saturday, was driving without a license.
The deceased Ralbinoda Ramsiej (34) was among the four who sustained grievous injuries in the accident.
Meanwhile, Thakur has been released on bail after her arrest on Saturday.
Taking note of the increasing number of accidents in and around the city, SP (Traffic) Nangkiew K. Syiem said, “The parents should ensure their children do not learn to drive on a highway but in open fields until they are confident enough to get a driver’s license.”
“From time to time, careful instructions have been given against rash driving,” he added.
Eighteen-year-old Thakur hit the four pedestrians, who were on the footpath, and dragged them into the compound of a house owned. The car damaged an iron gate and the compound wall.
