JOWAI: The Jaintia Journalists’ Association (JAA) boycotted the inauguration of the amphitheatre in Jowai on Thursday after a few journalists were stopped from taking their vehicles near the venue.
On Thursday, two traffic police personnel stopped the vehicle of JAA secretary Russel Nongrum and president CH Passah at the entrance. According to the association, traffic police are always against media persons for telling the truth about the cops. The programme was organized by the Department of Art and Culture. Nongrum, who is also a correspondent of Mawphor and Highland Post, said, “We are as important as politicians. Why didn’t they (police) allow us inside?” The amphitheater has been built at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore.
