SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) has asked the   Meghalaya 5th Pay Commission to implement the Assured Career Progressive Scheme (ACRS) for the deficit teachers of the state.

Talking to newsmen here in the city on Friday after the annual general meeting, the President of the association, ED Nongsiang said that they have put up their views before the 5th Pay Commission since the teachers under the deficit system has no scope for promotion.

Apart from the scheme, the association has also asked the Commission to extend medical reimbursement to different categories of teachers in the state.

“We have also asked the Commission to extend the age of retirement of teachers from 60 to 62 years,” Nongsiang added.

The association has   also stressed on the need to have sanctioned posts, if any new subjects are introduced in the schools of the state.

The association recently met the Principal Secretary of the education department, D P Wahlang who informed the teachers that the issue of extending national pension benefits to the deficit teachers would come along the 5th Pay Commission.

In the meeting with the Principal Secretary of the education department, the association was also apprised about the service rules for the teachers.

“We have   seen the draft services rules but its copy was not given to us since the rules are yet to receive views of the education minister and the chief minister.” he said.

As far as the State Education policy is concerned, Nongsiang informed that the Government had made the draft education policy and    it would be implemented with an action plan.

Meanwhile, the association would also organise a convocation in October this year to issue certificates for those teachers who had attended the diploma certificate training conducted by Global Schoolroom, Dublin University.

It was also informed that ED Nongsiang, though a retired teacher now, would continue as the president of the association till the issues pertaining with   the 5th Pay Commission are settled.
