TURA: The Congress- led alliance in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) headed by Chief Executive Member, Boston Marak, on Friday announced distribution of portfolios to ten members of his new Executive Committee.

While Boston Marak as the CEM has retained the all-important finance portfolio along with personnel, general administration, coal market and any other portfolio not allotted to any of the executive members, his No.2 from the Garo National Council (GNC) Wenison Marak has been made the deputy CEM with the portfolio for Civil Works.

Another GNC MDC Jinberth Goera R Marak is the new EM for Land and Revenue, land acquisition, relief and rehabilitation, Inter-state Boundary Dispute matters.

Mark Goera B Marak has been allotted the Taxation portfolio, town committee, water conservation, Catchment area Development.

Righteous N Sangma is the EM for Forests and Environment and Jhum Control.

Siju MDC Kenadik S Marak has been made EM for Bazar Haats, Art and Culture and Parliamentary Affairs.

The Betasing MDC Nripendra Koch has been allotted the Transport, Fishery and Ferry Ghat portfolio.

The Tura MDC Rupert M Sangma is the EM for Water Works, Printing Press, Tourism, Planning, Administrative reforms.

Jengjal MDC Levastone T Sangma was allotted the portfolios of Agriculture, Minor Irrigation and Horticulture, and Local Bodies.

Naguapara MDC Dormonath Ch Sangma, has been given Rural Development, Youth Affairs, Co-ordination and Resource Mobilization.

Bolsong MDC Jogonsing Sangma was allotted the portfolios of Rural Administration, Administration of Justice, Social Custom and Usages.

Interestingly, one of the key rebels who engineered the split in the NPP-BJP-GNC alliance, Asanang MDC Ismail Marak, failed to find a berth in the new Executive Committee headed by Boston Marak.

Marak had won the GHADC elections on a Congress ticket but later joined the BJP and became a part of the NPP-BJP-GNC alliance. He again switched allegiance to the Congress fold by joining hands with rebel NPP MDC Boston Marak and three other members, namely GNC’s Wenison Ch Marak, Congress rebel Dormonath Ch Sangma and Independent Righteous N Sangma.

The previous NPP led alliance headed by Denang T Sangma fell after its own party member and Chairman of the council Boston Marak walked over to the opposition Congress camp with four other rebels reducing the ruling NPP alliance into a minority and causing the resignation of the then CEM. The Congress returned to power with Boston Marak being made the new CEM, two weeks ago.
