Foundation of water supply scheme laid

SHILLONG: Parliamentary secretary and Mawphlang MLA Kennedy C Khyriem laid the foundation stone of the Laitmawsiang Water Supply Scheme (LWSS) at Laitmawsiang, Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills district on Friday.
The water supply scheme was sanctioned at an amount of Rs 3, 44, 85,000 from the Public Health Engineering (Hills Division).
Khyriem also informed the people present at the foundation-laying ceremony that there were another four water supply schemes on the anvil. They are Nongspung, Pyndenglitha and Tyrsad – Kyrphei Combined Water Supply Scheme and Laitnongrim Water Supply Scheme. The cost of the schemes is pegged at Rs 27 crore. “The foundation stone for the Commerce & Science College will soon be laid. This will be first institution in Mawphlang sanctioned at an amount of Rs 36 crore,” Khyriem said.
Stressing on cleanliness, he further asserted that development was for the people and not for individuals.
