SHILLONG: An official who was named by the CBI in connection with MUDA building scam was appointed again even as a case against him and others is pending both in the High Court and the Supreme Court.
According to a notification issued by the Urban Affairs Department on August 2, BRM Lyngdoh, District Urban Planner, East Khasi Hills, has been transferred and posted in Meghalaya Urban Development Authority on deputation as town planning officer. He is also allowed to hold dual charge as town planning officer, MUDA Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi. However, the order of the High Court of Meghalaya in January last year had quoted the final report of the CBI that probed irregularities in giving permission to construct buildings by MUDA chairperson and members, including BRM Lyngdoh.
According to the court, the CBI has found inculpatory materials against MUDA member BRM Lyngdoh and others for granting permission for raising illegal high-rises beyond ground floor plus three (G+3).
Besides the High Court, the case is pending in the Supreme Court.
