Section 144 in EKH after protest threat

Shillong: The district administration of East Khasi Hills has promulgated Section 144 prohibiting demonstrations and carrying lethal weapons in and around the city in view of a pressure group threatening to stage protest in the State.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said, “It is a precautionary measure.”
Earlier, HYC had announced a series of protests demanding implementation of ILP.
The imposition of Section 144 prohibits any person or persons holding spontaneous black flag demonstration and burning of effigies without permission.
The press statement said, “There is a possibility that some NGOs may hold spontaneous black flag demonstration and may resort to other activities which may result in the breakdown of law and order in the district.”
Obstructing of any vehicular movement in the area around the place of a function being attended by VVIPs, carrying of arms and other lethal weapons or items which can be used as weapons in and around the city and the entire District is also prohibited.
