The Wi-Fi hotspots will be launched in three segments — BSNL Wi-Fi, BSNL 4G plus and BSNL broad-fi — and customers can recharge from Rs 10 to Rs 1,999 to use the services. The hotspots will function within a range of 50 meter to 100 meter.
Later, a BSNL official said though the service provider has not put up Wi-Fi hotspots in educational institutions but the firm has provided broadband internet connection to as many as 120 schools in the state.
“The list was submitted to us two years back and though there were more schools on the lists the broadband connection was not feasible in many schools,” official said and added that any school that wants broadband connection can approach.
Besides, the PSU is also planning to launch hotspots in 19 locations of the state soon.
Responding to a query about the services in Meghalaya following the implementation of international gateway from Bangladesh, Saxena said the gateway had improved internet services in the region.
The senior official informed that data volume has now increased to 10,000 GB from 3,000 GB after the international gateway was laid in the North East even as he added that the company has replaced all old BTS towers in the state with new technologies, including 63 2G towers and 40 3G towers.
Meanwhile, BSNL also launched new plans like ASEEM and new landline plans with FMC of Rs 299 per month.
