SHILLONG: A young flight attendant hailing from Shillong was found dead in Kolkata after allegedly falling from the third floor of a building.
The body of flight attendant Clara Bansharai Khongsit, originally a resident of Upper Lumparing in Shillong, was found lying in a pool of blood on the road in front of a three-story flat at Kestopur near Dum Dum airport on Wednesday morning.
Clara, who graduated from Lady Keane College, Shillong, was working as a flight attendant (in-flight services) with IndiGo Airlines. The girl, in her mid-twenties, had joined the aviation company last year.
Bidhannagar city police, who are investigating her death, have detained two persons in connection to Clara’s death for questioning. Of the two detained, one is Clara’s friend and the other is the latter’s boyfriend.
She, along with two others, was reportedly celebrating a friend’s birthday in her apartment at Kestopur under Baguihati police in Kolkata on Tuesday night.
“We came to know that Clara came to her friend’s residence at Prafulla Kanan building at Kestopur to attend the latter’s birthday party on Tuesday. Her friend’s boyfriend was also there. The residence of Clara’s friend where the party was organized was located on the third floor of the building,” confirmed an investigating official.
It is learnt that versions given by both during interrogation were similar. Both said after midnight they heard a sound following which they said that Clara had fallen down from the shutter- less window of the residence.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Davis Marak, while confirming that the girl was found dead, said Clara was the younger sister of one of the cops from Shillong.
He also said Kolkata police was not sharing any information about the incident with Meghalaya police and it that it was very difficult to establish whether it was a case of suicide or was there foul play.
Meanwhile, the brother of the girl, Anthony Khongsit, who is a policeman, has already reached Kolkata.
