SHILLONG: After days of tension and misunderstanding, Dorbar Shnong of Mylliem and Seng Khasi   have finally decided to jointly identify a plot of land in Mylliem village which will be used as a cremation ground for Seng Khasi community.

It was on August 11, when tension flared up in Mylliem as the residents of Madan Iing Syiem, Mylliem had opposed the cremation of the President of the Sengbah ki Nongshat Nongkhein, (L) Kulam Nongrum at the cremation ground, since it would be reportedly in violation of the agreement which was signed in 2010, wherein it was decided that no cremation would take place near the residential area.

Intervening in the matter, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar on Thursday summoned both the Rangbah Shnong of the village and the Seng Khasi organisations to discuss and amicably resolve the issue.

The meeting was also attended by Syiem of Mylliem besides the District SP and other Government officials.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, PS Dkhar said that   both the parties had decided to maintain order and restrain from making any remarks against each other besides pledging to work together to see that peace prevailed in the village.

He added that the district administration would also step into the matter in finding a location for a permanent cremation ground for the Seng Khasi even as he issued a strong warning that both the parties would be booked if there was any law and order problem in the village

He further urged the village authorities in Mylliem to communicate with each other (Dorbar Shnong and Seng Khasi Mylliem) during times of hardship in the area and especially when there was loss of life.

Meanwhile, President Seng Khasi Mylliem R. Rynjah informed that, he would highlight before the people the issues taken up during the discussions with the Deputy Commissioner during a grand dorbar at Mylliem on August 20.
