SHILLONG: The core committee of the Seng Khasi, Seng Kmie decided to urge the Dorbar Shnong of Madan Ïng Syiem, Mylliem to allow the Seng Khasi, Mylliem to cremate at Kper Phatok till a land has been identified for cremation.

Addressing the Press on Sunday evening, a member of Seng Khasi, Seng kmie, Khlursing Lyngdoh told reporters, “The Seng Khasi, Mylliem have their right to get a land for cremation at Madan Ïng Syiem, Mylliem.”

“The Dorbar Shnong should allow us to cremate at Kper Phatok until land has been identified for the purpose of cremation,” he added.

There was dissent on the part of Seng Khasi, Mylliem when the headman of Madan Ïng Syiem, Mylliem, Hamphel Khyriem, proposed a plot of land for cremation.

The Seng Khasi, asserted that the plot of land is situated at a far off place and that the proposed place is allegedly not under the jurisdiction of Madan Ïng Syiem.

Terming the incident on August 11 as ‘disgraceful, in which the residents of Madan Ïng Syiem, Mylliem, disrupted the cremation of Kulam Nongrum, a Seng Khasi elder, Lyngdoh demanded that the people involved in the disruption should be booked as per law.

“No FIR will be filed. But the people who disrupted the cremation should be booked as per law. The state government should take action,” he added.

Lyngdoh went on to add that it is the third time that the Dorbar Shnong has disrupted a cremation. He said, “It will be a disgrace if this continues.”

“We want to bring peace and harmony in the society,” he added.
