SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) President Richard Marak said on Saturday lotus will not bloom in the hills.
Speaking at a programme organised for the youth here at Jaiaw Langsning in West Shillong constituency on Saturday, Marak said a youth leader in BJP also feels the same.
Slamming the saffron party, he said people join BJP with self agenda and for personal benefits even as he added that feelings like love, respect and brotherhood in the country is evaporating.
“Political parties are built for region but the Congress is for entire India,” he said.
Maintaining that the 2018 Assembly election is a battle of ideology, Marak said when a non-Khasi and a non-tribal are harassed, there will always be a Congress to help that person.
Earlier, Mohendro Rapsang, who is a probable Congress candidate from West Shillong, said he cannot promise white collared jobs but he can teach how to create jobs for the youth.
Maintaining that a change is required in the constituency, Rapsang added that youths should also be serious, committed and determined to see a bright future for themselves.
He also said people who are promising while collared jobs for youths are not only lying to themselves but they are also lying to their conscience even as he added that youths in today’s world dream for better tomorrow and a successful life. Rapsang said youths need good education as they “don’t get opportunity and such hardships reduce their confidence”.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 73rd birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi and the Sadbhavana Divas at Congress Bhawan Shillong on Saturday.
The programme was led by its president, D. D. Lapang, MLA, and it started with lighting of the lamp and paying floral tribute before the portrait of Rajiv Gandhi.
In his address as the chief guest, Lapang stretched on the life and contribution of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He said “coming from a wealthy family Rajiv Gandhi was a humble person, who had no difficulty in mixing with everyone.”
Lapang also recalled how the density had taken him from the cockpit of an Air Captain to the Cockpit of the Nation. While speaking of the importance of Rajiv Gandhi attached to the youth of the nation, Lapang remembered the historic speech of Rajiv Gandhi where he had deserted “India as the Old Country and a Youth Nation”. As the Vision of Rajiv Gandhi, of the 21st Century the meeting was presided over by James S.Lyngdoh, working president MPCC.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Joplin Scott Shylla, president, Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress, John F. Kharshiing, General Secretary, MPCC, Richard Marak, president Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress and Charles Marngar Secretary MPCC.
