SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar will talk to MUDA on introducing Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses in the localities suggested by former legislator Manas Chaudhuri.
Last week, Chaudhuri, wrote to Dkhar seeking his intervention in introducing bus service in Laban and neighbouring areas on an hourly basis covering the routes of Laban, Madan Laban, Lumparing, Kench’s Trace, Bishnupur and Rilbong.
In reply, the deputy commissioner said if necessary he would convene a meeting with MUDA officials and Transport operators at the earliest.
“While modalities will be worked out with the authority concerned as indicated, the Traffic Branch of SP’s office will also be requested to identify embarkation and disembarkation points for these buses,” Dkhar said.
The deputy commissioner also said similar complaints have been received from various quarters regarding taxi drivers refusing to take passengers unless vehicles are reserved.
“In this regard, the matter was again taken up with the Superintendent of Police and the District Transport Officer,” the DC said.
The official added that he would intensify the operations by conducting more surprise checks in major parking areas.
“A decision has also been taken to act stringently against violators to the extent of suspending permits,” the DC added.
