SHILLONG: The core committee of the Seng Khasi, Seng Kmie, has decided to urge the Dorbar Shnong of Madan Ïng Syiem in Mylliem to allow the Seng Khasi there to cremate at Kper Phatok till a land is identified for cremation.
Addressing the media on Sunday evening, a member of the Seng Khasi, Seng kmie, Khlursing Lyngdoh said it was “disgraceful” that residents of Madan Ïng Syiem disrupted the cremation of Kulam Nongrum, a Seng Khasi elder, on August 11 and those involved should be booked as per law.
“The Seng Khasi, Mylliem, has the right to get a land for cremation at Madan Ïng Syiem, Mylliem. The Dorbar Shnong should allow us to cremate at Kper Phatok until land is identified for cremation,” he added.
There was dissent among members of Seng Khasi in Mylliem when the headman of Madan Ïng Syiem Hamphel Khyriem proposed a plot of land for cremation.
The Seng Khasi asserted that the plot is far off and also it is not under the jurisdiction of Madan Ïng Syiem.
Lyngdoh, however, said they would not file an FIR but “the state government should take action”.
This is the third time that the Dorbar Shnong has disrupted a cremation and “it will be a disgrace if this continues”, Lyngdoh said.
“We want to bring peace and harmony in the society,” he added.
