NONGSTOIN: An inspection carried out by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) West Khasi Hills on Tuesday at the office of District Library Officer, Nongstoin revealed that the District Library exists in an almost non-functional way.
The organisation carried out the inspection after several complaints from students and youths of Nongstoin.
Wadbor Syiem Vice-President FKJGP West Khasi Hills told pressmen here that the District Library could accommodate only two people in the reading room posing a problem for students who want to read in the library.
Wadbor also lamented that the available books in the library were outdated as there have been no update for the past 15 years.
He also said that the library was managed from Shillong and has been functioning from the DC’s office quarter in a very poor condition.
The FKJGP, during the inspection, learnt that the District Library was setup in 1984 and was abandoned by the State government through the Directorate of Arts & Culture for almost 33 years.
They said that they will soon meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to submit the memorandum related to the demand of District Library building cum Auditorium in Nongstoin to cater to the needs of the students and the general public as well.
The FKJGP also carried out inspection at Civil Hospital Nongstoin for blood bank and the GNM. They found out that the building was ready.
The FKJGP asked the concerned department to set up the blood bank at the earliest.
