TURA: A decade-long power crisis in two remote villages in South Garo Hills has irked the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) in Chokpot that has blamed the state power corporation’s negligence for the situation.
The federation said the remote villages of Rajarongat and Daji Teksragre, both of which draw power from Barengapara MeECL sub-station, are without power for over 10 years now. Barengapara MeECL sub-station is located near Dalu in West Garo Hills.
“Why has MeECL neglected these two villages for such a long time? If connection is already there, why can’t MeECL provide power? People from these villages are suffering and there are school children whose studies are being affected by this,” the federation said and added that if the sub-station is unable to provide power, a new connection should be extended from the Chokpot MeECL sub-station.
