Guwahati: Long-distance direct train services between the Northeast and the rest of the country will remain cancelled till August 31 next though railway authorities is working on a war footing to restore flood-damaged  railway infrastructure in Bihar and West Bengal areas.

A source in Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) here informed that though the direct train services between the region and the rest of the country was expected to resume from August 28, now it is expected to resume from August 31 only.

The cancellation of long-distance trains has caused serious inconvenience to passengers  from the region even as air fares in flights connecting the region have steeped because of the heavy rush of passengers in view of prolonged cancellation of train services.

Assam chief minister has requested the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha to intervene in facilitating reasonable fares in all flights connecting the Northeast besides urging the Railway minister Suresh Prabhu for expeditious restoration of the train services between the region and the rest of the country.
