SHILLONG: The assistant librarian of Maulana Azad Central Library, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), Jaman Hussan Ahmed has developed a new application called the “USTM Library OPAC” (Online Public Access Catalogue) which is designed and developed with the help of Appgrayser and Android Studio, an app designing software with Java Script.
The aim of the App is to provide an online library services as well as give a search platform of central library resources of USTM community in 24 hours.
The App is connected with Koha (library Management Software) database and the user search query will be reflected in the same database.
The entire library user can be able to download the library apps from Google Playstore and get the library facility in their hands anytime anywhere. This app provides facilities like online catalogue facility that enables speedy searching of library database including books, journals, periodicals and manuscripts; Displaying search books with physical location and number of copies available; Displaying the status of all the library books; whether it’s taken by any other user or not, if so, then when he or she will return; Provide unique search terms with maximum number of search results and others.
USTM chancellor, Mahbubul Hoque has announced an amount of Rs 50.000 award to be presented to Hussan along with a certificate.
The award will be presented to him during the upcoming orientation programme on September 6 at USTM.
