Court appoints commissioner for tree felling

SHILLONG: High Court of Meghalaya on Friday appointed Joint Registrar of the Court , Kerpa M.L. Nongbri to function as a Commissioner in the event of cutting of any tree in city.
The appointment was after taking up the letter of the Divisional Forest Officer on Friday regarding the precarious condition of the trees especially the one near the Civil Hospital.
The Court said that the forest officer should inform the Commissioner if any process of cutting or pruning of trees is taken up.
“If any such process is taken up, the Commissioner shall make a specific report in this regard. Moreover, all the parts after pruning or felling of any tree shall remain in the custody of the receiver already appointed in this matter”, the Court said.
According to the court, the receiver should be informed, who shall make necessary inventory and submit the report to the Court.
The matter will come up for hearing on Monday.
