SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Minister for School Education and Literacy, Deborah Marak has urged the teachers to be professionals while discharging their duty of imparting knowledge and education to the students.

Speaking at the official function organised by the state government to observe Teachers’ Day here on Tuesday, Marak said that the State Government has to complete the training of teachers by 2019 following a clear cut directive from the Central Government that all teachers must be well equipped.
Urging teachers to adopt professional attitude while discharging their duty, Marak added that teaching is not a service, profession or job but it is a pillar of the society.
Lauding the teachers for carrying out their duties despite several hurdles, she added that the Government was committed to improve their lifestyle and this was the reason for the Government to enhance teachers’ salaries from time to time.
She also said that the State Government in collaboration with the Union Government was rolling out many schemes for the teachers.
Earlier, an array of colourful programmes were presented by the students on the occasion.
