HSPDP releases second list of poll candidates

SHILONG: Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has released the second list of candidates for the next Assembly election in the state for three constituencies on Tuesday. The election will be held in 2018.

The HSPDP has named Blatsbor Kharpran as party candidate from Mawryngkneng constituency. He hails from Sohryngkham and has retired as branch manager of Meghalaya Rural Bank. He was a former member of Khasi Students’ Union, Sohryngkham Unit.

The party’s ticket for Mawkyrwat constituency has gone to Renikton L Tongkhar who is a commerce graduate and has been involved in politics for 20 years.

The party has nominated Droistar Khongsti to contest from Sohra constituency. He was a part-time lecturer at St Anthony’s college during 1994-96. Later, he worked as Research Assistant in the PHE, Mawphlang till his retirement.

It may be mentioned that the HSPDP last month released its first list of candidates in which it named the sitting legislators of the party — Phlastingwell Pangniang from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Witting Mawsor from Mawshynrut and Diosstarness Jyndiang from Nongstoin.

Two sitting MDCs of the party too featured in the first list — Teilinia Thangkhiew (Mylliem) and Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong).

Two prominent names on HSPDP list of candidates for 2018 are Pynshai Manik Syiem from Mawphlang and Martle M Mukhim from Mawkynrew.

The party has named three political greenhorns – social worker Biolinda L Nonglait from Mawthadraishan constituency, law graduate Defender Pakem from Sutnga-Saipung and noted lawyer Alester Neville Diengdoh from North Shillong.

It may be mentioned that the Co–ordination Committee of the UDP – HSPDP Alliance stated that North Shillong, Mawthadraishan, Mawshynrut, Mawryngkneng, Sohra, Mawkynrew, Sohiong , Mookaiaw, Umroi are open seats.
