NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mawshynrut Circle on Thursday urged the West Khasi Hills District Medical and Health Officer to improve infrastructure in the area.
In a memorandum submitted to the DM&HO, the KSU pointed out the inconvenient location of the Riangdo Community Health Centre (CHC), which is about 47km from the district headquarters of Nongstoin. It also stated that the centre is in a state of disarray.
However, A. Sohshang, president of the KSU Mawshynrut, said there are no treatment facilities in the village which compel villagers to travel to Shillong.
The memorandum included demands to upgrade the number of beds at the health centre and to install ultrasound and X-ray machines. It also stated that the posts of dentist, gynaecologist and pediatrician at the Riangdo CHC are still vacant.
Since Mawshynrut Block has been upgraded to a civil sub-division, KSU stated that there is a need to have a Sub Divisional Medical & Health Officer at the Riangdo CHC.
