GUWAHATI: In the series of on-going operations against armed rebel outfits by Indian Army in South Arunachal Pradesh delivered yet another blow to NSCN rebels with the Longding Battalion of Assan Rifles apprehending a hardcore cadre of the NSCN (K) along with two over ground workers of the NSCN (IM) in separate operations carried out at Niausa, Longding town in the evening of September 14 and morning of September 15.
Defence spokesman based in Kohima, Colonel C Konwar informed that self-styled Lance Corporal Penom Konyak was apprehended based on specific intelligence about presence of one cadre who is trying to terrorise people in attempts of extortion in Longding town.
A pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the militant who during interrogation confessed to his allegiance to NSCN(K) which recruited him in March this year.
In a similar operation, Ganglaih Gangsa and Chailai Wangsu, over ground worker of another Naga rebel group NSCN(IM) were apprehended based on specific intelligence about presence of cadres and attempts extortion in Niausa village. Both the apprehended persons are residents of Wakka circle. The Army claimed that both of them confessed to their allegiance to the NSCN(IM).
The security forces have been carrying out aggressive and focused operations against insurgents in the South Arunachal Pradesh areas bordering Myanmar.
