SHILLONG: A local court here on Friday remanded seven persons in six-day police custody in connection with the recent cyber fraud case.
All the seven, including six Nigerians, were arrested by Meghalaya police from New Delhi.
The next date for hearing is on September 21 and during the hearing on Friday, the Investigation Officer urged the court not to give bail to the accused persons.
The court also directed the investigation officer to comply with the Apex Court guidelines with respect to the health and safety of the accused persons during custody. The court also added that they should not be tortured during custody and medical treatment must be provided to them if necessary.
The seven people were arrested after Meghalaya police swung into action following a complaint that a person was cheated of Rs 20 lakh by a Facebook friend who supposedly had come to India to meet the complainant and that he had been detained at Delhi Airport by Customs officials for carrying cash in dollars and expensive gifts.
