GSU Tikrikilla leader resigns
SHILLONG: Walseng Sangma has resigned from the post of president of GSU, Tikrikilla Regional Unit on September 21. Sangma, who completed two consecutive terms, thanked the GSU leaders for their support.

Swachhta hi sewa programme
SHILLONG: The headquarters 101 area will conduct various activities as part of cleanliness drive “Swachhta hi Sewa” till October 2. The major events planned include mass participation for cleaning of Umshyrpi river and surrounding area near Rilbong on September 23, lectures, skits and theme movie at Rhino auditorium on September 25, mass rally by NCC cadets on September 26 and various programmes including oath taking ceremony by all on October 2 as a culmination to the events.

Enilla case to be decided in GHADC court
TURA: The Chambugong clan has submitted a memorandum to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) seeking the removal of Enilla Ch Marak from Nokmaship of Danakgre A’king. The case will be decided by the council court. Executive member in-charge of land and revenue, Jimberth Goera Marak informed the clan that a show cause notice was issued to the Danakgre nokma over the controversy surrounding her in allegedly authorizing Bernard Rimpu Marak to officiate on her behalf. “A deadline of ten days was given to her to present her case but she did not turn up and only sent a strongly worded statement. She was summoned twice but failed to turn up. She will now be summoned to clarify the issue in the court of the land and revenue EM,” Jimberth Goera Marak added.

South Tura residents demand street lights
TURA: Residents of several localities under South Tura have lamented the delay by the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) to install street lights at various vulnerable locations of the town despite a complaint being submitted to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) nearly a month ago.The residents along with social activist and leader of the United South Tura Club (USTC), Anamika J G Momin had on September 1, met the official and submitted a letter urging her to look into the grievances being faced by the locals. As per the letter, the installation of street lights is required at Akonggre, Diringagre (Dakopgre near Dikki Bandi Stadium), Chunmati, Dolampong, Matchakolgre, Rishipara (way to Mandhir), Soksanang, Nikwatgre, Walbakgre including Upper and Lower Sunny Hills in New Tura. “People from these localities feel insecure once evening comes as there are no street lights. Once again, we would like to request the concerned authority to look into the matter and we hope that there are no more delays,” Momin said.
