SHILLONG: People in the state continue to be duped lakhs of rupees over social media despite continuous reminders from the police and other authorities
In a latest case that has come to the fore a woman from the state was duped worth Rs 2,50,000 by somebody she had befriended in the Facebook
A woman lodged a complaint that in the month of July 2017. She befriended one Jones Kennedy K Marak from UK through Facebook.
Later, on August 16, 2017, she was informed by one Pooja Sharma of Customs Clearance Service that Jones Kennedy was detained at IGI Airport, New Delhi Customs Service for carrying huge UK currency amounting to Rs 200 Crores and asked her to pay Rs 58,000 as penalty which she complied with.
On further enquiry from ICICI Bank, it was found that she has deposited cash Rs 50,000, Rs 1,50,000 and Rs 50,000 , totaling Rs 2,50,000 on three occasion earlier this month.
