Church faithful question Sunn’s Rs 6L donation to college

SHILLONG: A handsome donation to a college by former PHE chief engineer SK Sunn has created controversy over black money.
Believers from Mawphlang Presbytery have taken exception to the Rs 6-lakh donation to Khraw Sing College, run by the presbytery, because they feel it is akin to “mixing black and unaccounted money with the accounted one given by the faithful as tithe”.
In a press statement issued here, the faithful referred to a CAG report and said Sunn swindled crores of money through fake schemes of the PHE Department.
They also asked the church leaders whether they were aware of the source of the money and urged the presbytery to “wake up” and “rake up” the issue.
Sunn recently announced his decision to contest in the 2018 Assembly elections from Mawphlang, which is currently represented by Congress MLA Kennedy Khyriem.
Last year, the Meghalaya Organisation Against Corruption had alleged that Sunn manipulated the Swachh Bharat scheme to favour only a few villages in Mawphlang block and ignored due procedure.
