SHILLONG: Ramdas Bandu Athawale, the minister of state for social justice and empowerment and founder of the Republican Party of India (A), will visit the city on Saturday as a state guest, said the party’s local unit on Thursday.
RPI(A) has been functioning in the state for one year, the party’s president in Meghalaya, John Sohtun, and general secretary Alfa Kharkongor told media persons on Thursday.
Sohtun said there were 50 primary members in the state, besides there were over 300 unregistered members.
He informed that the decision to contest the elections has not been made as the matter has been entrusted to another committee.
Talking about the problems plaguing the state,
said paucity of potable water and environmental hazards are among the major issues.
However, they refrained from commenting on the political issues.
RPI(A) is a faction of the Republican Party of India, which was founded in September 30, 1956, and BR Ambedkar is regarded as the founder of the party.
