Three arrested for littering

SHILLONG: In a bid to ensure the implementation of section 102 of the Meghalaya Police Act, which gives punishment for littering in public places, the Sadar police on Friday caught three persons throwing garbage in Jail Road market and Police Bazar near Dreamland Arcade.
Police have initiated the proceedings against them and the matter has been forwarded to the Court.
On conviction, the accused persons would have to pay a fine of Rs 5000 each.
Earlier, East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak had issued a notification under section 101 of the Act prohibiting littering. The Sadar police had been leading at the front in its fight for keeping the city clean.
Earlier, several people were arrested for washing their vehicles on government road at Butcher Road and all had been booked under section 102 of the Act. 
The public in general are urged to inform the police in case anyone is found littering.
