GUWAHATI:  Restrictions have been put on selling of fire crackers throughout Kamrup metropolitan district including the city of Guwahati by the district administration in view of the coming Diwali festival.

The deputy commissioner Dr M Angamuthu informed that unlike earlier years fire crackers this year could not be sold by all vendors whoever wants to. The administration has put four strict conditions for selling fire crackers this Diwali.

The official informed that prospective fire cracker vendors must be accredited by Fire and Emergency Services of the State, they must procure permission from the police department, they must have permission from Guwahati Municipal Corporation to set up stalls to sell fire crackers and they must procure no objection certificate (NOC) from the district disaster management authority.

Moreover, fire crackers can be sold in specific areas which will be identified and notified by the district administration.

“Anyone found flouting the laid down conditions while selling fire crackers will be booked and their stock will be confiscated,” the deputy commissioner said.
