SHILLONG: Setting their fresh journey into the realm of politics, People’s Democratic Party (PDF), unveiled its symbol (candles) here at its party office on Friday.
The president of the party, Ivanlum Marbaniang, while expressing his happiness over the allotment of the party symbol by the Election Commission of India said that the party is now complete.
On the other hand, party general secretary, Auspicious Lyngdoh said that the party at the moment is preparing its manifesto and experts besides youths are involved in the process.
The party will announce its candidates for the 2018 Assembly elections once the election committee is formed.
They are in the process of forming district committees after which the election committee will be formed to decide on the candidates.
The party also said that it is hopeful of fielding candidates in all the 36 seats of Khasi-Jaintia Hills besides contesting in Garo Hills.
Even though the party is spreading its wings in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region as of now, the party “plans” to visit Garo Hills region.
The party leaders will visit Mairang constituency on October 16 followed by a visit to Nartiang constituency on October 21.
The unveiling of the election symbol of the PDF was attended by the party MDCs, ticket aspirants and members.
Earlier this month the Election Commission of India, while accepting the registration of PDF, allotted “candles” as its symbol.
However, the party informed that even though candles has been allotted to the party, but in constituencies where the party may not field candidates, the independent candidates can use candles as their symbol as well.
