HC directive on cleanliness near MES estate

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the garrison engineer of the Military Engineering Service (MES) estate to attend meetings of the supervisory committee set up to actively monitor, improve and maintain cleanliness in the city. 
During the hearing on Friday, the member secretary of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority placed on record his report with regard to the meetings of the supervisory committee.
During the course of submissions, one of the aspects indicated was regarding the question of garbage near the Military Engineering Service estate.
Having regard to the submissions made, Court requested the Counsel N Mozika to ensure the presence of the concerned garrison engineer in the Court.
In response, the garrison engineer, Shillong appeared before the Court in the second round of call; and it was pointed out that the necessary measures have been taken for removal of the garbage and preventing collection of such garbage around the MES estate.
It was also assured that the garrison engineer would attend the next meeting of the supervisory committee so as to further strengthen the management of cleanliness and hygienic conditions in and around the city.
“Having regard to the requirements, while deferring the matter on Friday, we would expect that the next meeting of the Supervisory Committee be convened on 17th instant and the Garrison Engineer, Shillong shall attend the meeting; and it would be expected that apart from the other requirements, all the necessary decisions regarding the management of cleanliness around the MES estate shall be taken in the said meeting,” the Court order stated.
The Court directed that the member secretary, MSLSA should also continue to attend the meetings of the supervisory committee.
The matter has been listed for further orders on October 23.
