SHILLONG: The Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) led by suspended Congress member PN Syiem has survived the no-confidence motion thrice in one year.
The first no confidence motion against the EC was during the Council session held in February this year moved by People’s Democratic Front (PDF) member , HS Shylla who was then a UDP MDC.
Shylla moved the NC on grounds of anomalies in job appointments and the misappropriation of professional tax.
Later in June, the second no-confidence motion was moved by the Congress, UDP, HSPDP and an Independent MDC, PS Syiem as the CEM was accused of using the PDF coalition for the interest of his People’s Democratic Front (PDF) party.
Again, on October 12, KHADC CEM once again survived no-confidence motion which was tabled by the lone Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MDC Adelbert Nongrum.
On Thursday, the no confidence (NC) motion was rejected as it received the support of only five MDCs – three from UDP and two from HSPDP.
Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), LG Nongsiej informed that the NC cannot be placed as it failed to get the requisite number.
The three UDP members who stood up to support the NC were Teinwell Dkhar, Donkupar Sumer and Rona Khymdeit while the two HSPDP MDCs were Teilinia Thangkhiew and Samlin Malniang.
Interestingly, the five Congress members did not stand up to extend support to the NC.
The ruling People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) has 19 members, although the stand of UDP MDC Equator Nongrang is not clear as he was not present on the first day of the session.
Nongrum moved the NC alleging the failure of the PDF to check anomalies in trading license, labour license and delay to bring amendment to Rule 128.
