SHILLONG: The state government will schedule a meeting with Assam to hold border talks and for co-ordination to ensure peace in Meghalaya before the Assembly polls.
Chief Secretary Y Tsering said after Assam was busy during the Assembly sessions recently, Meghalaya has yet again written to the neighbouring state to fix a date for holding the talks.
The chief secretaries of both Assam and Meghalaya have been entrusted to hold talks to iron out the differences over areas of dispute.
“We will definitely hold talks with our counterpart before Meghalaya polls since cooperation from Assam is very much required for smooth conduct of the elections,” Tsering said and added that there are many polling stations close to the Assam border.
Recently, the state had written to Assam to suggest a date for talks even as Assam had earlier failed to respond to the dates suggested by Meghalaya.
