SHILLONG: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is hoping for a good show in Garo Hills region in the Assembly polls scheduled for early next year.
BJP President Shibun Lyngdoh on Tuesday claimed that BJP was very strong in plain belt of Garo Hills and the party had completed its organisational structure in eight constituencies of plain belt.
“We are not bad even in hill areas of Garo Hills and we have good base in at least 5-6 constituencies,” he said.
According to Lyngdoh, Garo Hills region which has 24 seats, will see a good fight between BJP, Congress and NPP and the BJP will win good number of seats there. “My mission is to secure 40 seats in the state so that we can form the Government here,” he said.
On being asked about BJP being tagged as communal party, the BJP state chief said that a propaganda would continue to be a propaganda but such propaganda did not last long and added that all such propaganda against the party was being spread through social media.
“Even our Tourism Minister K L Alphons has clearly asked for a single proof of any atrocity committed against Muslims and Christians in the country in the last three and half years of Narendra Modi led NDA Government,” he said.
In the last Assembly elections, it was the Congress which completely swept Garo Hills region as it secured large number of seats and this time too, the party is hoping for a same performance whereas other parties like NPP and BJP buoyed by the success in Lok Saba by polls and GHADC elections are confident of performing well this time
